The short version
You sign up, you record yourself dancing, and the app shows you your movement as a skeleton. Recording and pose detection happen on your iPhone. Nothing you record reaches us unless you post it to your profile — and when you do, it is visible only to you until you say otherwise.
Why there is an account
Dance Sage is built around people: a profile that is yours, videos credited to whoever danced them, and people who follow you. None of that works without knowing who you are, so an account is required to use the app.
We ask for an email address and a password. That is the whole registration. We do not ask for your real name, your phone number, your contacts, or your location.
Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, a Google service. Google receives your email address and stores your password in a form we never see — we cannot read your password, and neither can anyone else. Your dancing is never sent to Google.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything you record is written to Dance Sage's private storage on the device itself:
- Your dance videos.
- The skeleton data extracted from them.
- Beat and tempo information detected from the recording.
- The names you give your recordings.
A recording stays there and nowhere else until you post it. Deleting a recording in the app removes it from your device, and deleting Dance Sage removes all of it at once.
Camera and microphone
Dance Sage asks for camera access so it can record and analyse dancing, and for microphone access so recordings keep their sound. Pose detection runs entirely on your iPhone. Camera frames are never streamed to a server, ours or anyone else's.
What happens when you post
Posting is the one action that sends a recording to us, and it is always a deliberate choice. When you post, we receive:
- The video, compressed for playback.
- The skeleton data for that recording.
- The title, note, dance style and level you entered.
These are stored on Cloudflare R2 in North America. Posts you have not made public are served only to you, over links that expire.
Every post starts private. Private means only you. You can change a post to shared or public whenever you like, and you can change it back — making something private again withdraws the access other people had.
What we hold about you
- Your email address, and a password we cannot read.
- Your handle, display name, and anything you choose to put on your profile — bio, city, styles, levels.
- The recordings you have posted, and whether each is private, shared or public.
That is the complete list. We do not collect your location, your contacts, your advertising identifier, or a history of what you looked at.
Sharing and exporting
When you export or share a recording, you choose where it goes through the standard iOS share sheet: Photos, Messages, TikTok, Instagram, or anywhere else you pick. Dance Sage hands the file to the destination you choose and is not involved after that. Whatever you send becomes subject to the privacy policy of the app or service you sent it to.
We do not post your videos to Dance Sage's own social media accounts. If we ever want to feature a dancer, we will ask first.
Recording other people
Dance Sage can record two dancers at once. Please make sure anyone you record is happy to be recorded, and be especially careful before posting a video that shows someone else. This matters to us, but it is your responsibility rather than something the app can enforce.
Music and copyright
Recording a song playing at a venue does not give you the right to republish that music. For this reason Dance Sage exports silent video by default and offers original audio only as a deliberate choice, for your own private review or where you have the necessary rights.
No tracking, no analytics, no ads
Dance Sage contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party tracking software. We do not use the advertising identifier, we do not build a profile of your behaviour, and we have nothing to sell to anyone else. All movement analysis runs on your device.
Children
Dance Sage is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13.
Your choices
You can delete any post, which removes the video and its skeleton data from our storage. You can make a public post private again at any time. You can revoke camera or microphone access in iOS Settings, and deleting the app removes every recording still on the device.
You can delete your account from within the app. Deleting your account removes your profile, your posts, and the recordings behind them from our storage, and cannot be undone.
Changes to this policy
If Dance Sage gains features that change how data is handled, this page will be updated before those features ship, and the date at the top will change.
